Jan 30: A retired porn star making Tuscan red and getting Robert Parker to describe it, not her, as "opulent and luscious" is a great second career story.
As the gentle blogger at www.vineyardgate.com reports, Natalie Oliveros, the porn star known as Savanna Samson in The New Devil in Miss Jones , has just launched her new wine venture with a poetic label she calls Sogno Uno (which is Italian for 'Dream One').
The Tuscan red wine was crafted for her by the noted winemaker, Roberto Cipresso, who is based in Montalcino and produces Brunello from his family's La Fiorita estate. These days, perhaps he's better known for his venture in Argentina, Achaval-Ferrer, with the Belgian billionaire, Albert Frere, who's now in the news for having bid for Taittinger champagne.
Oliveros and Cipresso developed the wine together and the final blend for the 2001 release is 70% Cesanese, 20% Sangiovese and 10% Montepulciano. Just 409 cases were ordered by Oliveros and the wine expected to retail for $38 a bottle.
Endowed with her show business experience, Oliveros has wasted no time in promoting her wine in the right circles. It's reported that she has already gotten Robert M. Parker, Jr., to taste her wares. Apparently, Parker enjoyed the experience, as he found it "opulent and luscious," and gave it an outstanding rating of 90-91 points.
With all the advanced accolades her new wine is getting, it appears that Oliveros is on her way to a highly successful second career, an opportunity much desired by porn stars. As the slogan goes in her hit film, I Love This Business : "A hard job is good to find."
