Launch: Fashionable Kimaya Wine from Australia

The wine scene in India is ready to turn more fashionable with the well-known fashion label Kimaya being launched as wine in Gurgaon on Saturday 26th at Westin Hotel Gurgaon where Global Wines and Spirits will introduce Kimaya Chardonnay, Shiraz, Sparkling wine and Moscato wines produced in Australia by the winemaker Ben Riggs.

Click For Large ViewThe wines are being imported by Global Wines & Spirits- a division of Veekay & Company, a Gurgaon based importer that has been in the business of distribution & marketing of wine & spirits for the last forty years.  ‘The Global Wines is essentially a younger and innovative extension of Veekay & Company,’ says Jatin Virmani, COO, adding that this company which presumably is partnered by Veekay, Kimaya founder- owner Pradeep Hirani and Ben Riggs of Galvanized Wine Company.

Jatin who is the backbone of Veekay and claims an experience of 40 years of marketing spirits and wines is a globe trotter with an MBA from Maastricht School of Management, Amsterdam and a 3 year diploma in IT from NIIT. He has been instrumental in starting the BIO-Bottled in Origin division in 2006 and he has been instrumental in growing BIO in Haryana by 200 % in the last three years.

‘I travelled to Australia three times with Pradeep Hirani of the fashion house Kimaya in order to find the right partner for our label,’ says Jatin, adding, ‘we shall import and market only the Kimaya label of wines including Champagne. The wines would be imported from different countries-thus there could be a Kimaya Chardonnay from Australia and another one from California. The company plans to bring out Sniffer label vodka for the youth in another launch.

The Kimaya wines would be available on 27th morning onwards from Spencer’s, the day after the official launch at the Westin Gurgaon where the Fash fraternity is expected to turn out in big numbers with Rohit Bal as the Guest of Honour. The wines would be available at under Rs. 1200 each. ‘Since we have an L1-bf excise license that allows sale of wine and the wholesale license too, we are in a position to supply to various super-markets like Spencer’s, Reliance, Nature’s Basket etc.

We shall use all the experience I have of selling spirits and wines to market Kimaya, the private label owned by the company,’ says Jatin adding ,’ brand building rather than brand selling would be our focus.’

With Kimaya selling labels of several fashion designers, Kimaya could become a popular designer wines at various fashion shows and events.

The trade professionals may contact Jatin Virmani directly to get invitation to the launch dinner party where they will have an opportunity to preview and taste wines before they go public on the morning of 27th February.
