Christened as Gourmet Indulgence, the Fiesta hopes to provide the gourmets a great food and wine experience, of course, with Four Seasons wines. The ongoing programme will continue till September 15. The 3-5 course meals with Four Seasons wines have been priced at Rs.1000-to Rs.1500 pp+ taxes, including different wines served with different courses.
Abhay Kewadkar told Arun Verma, a member of the Delhi Wine Club invited to attend the dinner at Olive with Chef Saby and his team in attendance that the event was more about pairing food with wine. He emphasised that wine should not be treated as a drink for elite classes and should be free from pre-opinioned pairings; rather it should be according to the individual palate. He recommended however, that ‘aromas for aromas, intensity with intensity and structure with structure of food and wine should be matched to get the best out of the combinations.’
Sounding disappointed at the high profit margins charged by restaurants, he expressed the view that wine prices there were very high and irrational, insisting that the beverage should be sold at prices similar to those of beer and other beverages to increase consumption. This then was the purpose of the wine and food fiesta, according to Abhay. ‘With 90 restaurants in 7 metro cities we hope to pair food with different wines for a layman to understand the pairing better,’ he added.
Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Delhi, and Mumbai, Pune and Goa were selected apparently in two legs where restaurants had been selected for the first-of-its-kind epicurean food & wine journey throughout these cities in India with 3/4/5 course exclusive menus, especially crafted by the chefs and paired with Four Seasons Wines from Rs.999/- to Rs.1499/-(plus taxes). ‘Through the Four Seasons Gourmet Indulgence we are making the effort to scale up and present unique gastronomic pairing at 90 signature restaurants across India,’ said the Vice President and Chief Winemaker who had flown to Delhi especially for this event.
Abhay also said that to promote wine tourism in India, the company was going to open the 14-room resort at their vineyard near Pune in January 2014 (the earlier plans envisaged for opening the resort in September seem to have been pushed back once again by the company by four months).
The event claims to be the first, largest and longest celebration of food and wine pairing in the country.
