Tickle your TASTE buds in Mumbai

Taste 2011, the international wine, food and hospitality show takes place once again at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon on January 27-29 where professionals have the opportunity of tasting wines and foods from 14 countries, with several interesting seminars and guided tastings during all three days.

Organised by Paris based Promeeting in collaboration with Huahine Exhibitions, the 3-day exhibition for trade and professionals is being held in Hall no. 5 of the same venue in the Mumbai suburb Goregaon, as last year. It will welcome the visitors to a taste of wine and food from 14 countries.

Although the emphasis will be on wine, food sector including the expanding olive oil and chocolate segment, will be present to tickle the taste buds of health conscious hoteliers and other trade people. Olive oil production is an intricate process and different producers and experts with different varietals will be at hand to guide the visitors through this process.

One can taste French wines from different areas-Alsace, Bergerac, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Languedoc-Roussillon, Loire Valley, Provence, Rhône Valley and  South West in the French Pavilion created by UbiFrance.

You can  get the ‘Taste of Italy’ with its wines, olive oils, pastas and other specialties, courtesy ICE -Italian Trade Commission. Twenty six companies are participating this year. ‘This is the biggest Italian presence India has seen in one event in the recent years’,  says Mel Shah, project manager for the second year. Check out wines from Gulfi- one of the six top rated wineries of Sicily, near Etna. At the last year’s Indian Wine Challenge, the late entry in the competition had got one of its Nero d’Avola to win the Best Red Wine Award and another label won a Bronze.

Australia and South Africa (through WOSA-Wines of South Africa), have their pavilions to give a taste of some of their wines. Crete is the largest island of Greece and will present some of its interesting wine. But this epicenter of Mediterranean diet will also be a big attraction for the health conscious visitors. Crete’s Co will display a range of its best kept secrets – olive oil, wine, herbs, black bread typical to the region, cheese and honey  etc.

Canada will showcase its own brand of cuisine through live cooking theatres run by renowned Chefs arriving from Canada. Several companies will be present at the pavilion showcasing different innovative products that are new to the Indian market, informs Shah who advises the visitors to also taste wines from Central Europe.

Indonesia has already showcased to India some of its hidden FMCG treasures and one can TASTE what they have to offer and explore the possibility of importing some of their exotic products commercially after visiting their stand.

In addition, there will be usual guided wine tasting sessions from different countries, seminars, food and wine matching competition. Sadly missing would be the India Wine Challenge and the opportunity to taste some of the award winning wines.
