India Voted as Asia’s Leading Destination

Sep 30 : Whizzing past the favourites like Bali, Korea and Sri Lanka, India was declared as “Asia’s Leading Destination” by the prestigious Business Travel Awards 2011 as a result of voting by a phenomenal 213,000 industry professionals through a process which is scrupulously monitored and independently audited.

The new super luxury hotel Oberoi Gurgaon that was opened earlier this year was voted as “Asia’s Leading Luxury Hotel” whereas the next door Trident Gurgaon, also a part of the Oberoi managed property, was voted “Asia’s Leading Hotel”.

Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces has been voted the Best Business Hotel Chain in India in the Business Traveler Awards 2011 for the third year in a row, scoring a hat trick. Operated by InterContinental Hotels, Crowne Plaza Bengaluru Electronic City, the new upscale hotel has been awarded as ‘India’s Leading New Business Hotel’

The 18th annual awards were given at the Gala Dinner held on Wednesday September 28th when VIPs, senior tourism leaders, captains of industry and international media from over 30 countries travelled to Bangkok to attend the Asia and Australasia Award Ceremony.

Asia’s role in leading the global travel and tourism industry was acknowledged at the Gala Dinner at Hotel Dusit Thani when the World Travel Awards (WTA) president Graham Cooke underlined the incredible strength of the travel and tourism economy of Asia and Australasia. “Asia is powering the global travel and tourism recovery, and tonight’s winners represent the very cream of our industry. The burgeoning middle classes in markets such as India, China and Malaysia are fuelling a surge in Intra- Asia Travel,’ he said.

The Asia & Australasia Ceremony marks the fourth leg of World Travel Awards 2011 Grand Tour, and follows the legs in Dubai, UAE; Antalya, Turkey; and Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Montego Bay, Jamaica will play host to the final heat on October 29th.

The regional winners will then progress to the Grand Finale of the year. The coveted annual award was instituted in 1994 and reflects the overall expectations and  experiences of today’s professional travelers- corporate travelers and decision makers.
