Pullman Aerocity Sparkles with Pullman Brut Bubbles

Jan 14: Ever so keen to promote wine in their F&B portfolio, Pullman Aerocity Delhi has joined a select band of 5-star Indian hotels which have introduced their own labels and perhaps the only one with own sparkling wines in the portfolio with both the new Brut and Rose Brut variants crafted by Grover Zampa Vineyards in Bangalore, writes Subhash Arora who tasted the variants and found Brut to be the top dog in the Indian sparkling selection

A Champagne bottle costing over Rs. 9500 or more plus taxes may not be everyone’s cup of tea, oops, glass of bubby , but Brut by Pullman at Rs. 3550 a bottle may not burn a hole in your pocket, though a limited range of champagnes including Taittinger, Moet and Devaux Cuvee D are also available here. You can order by the glass at Rs. 750 or even a glass (150 mL). What’s more, The Rose version which is generally higher priced is available at the same price.

I found Brut by Pullman a much better sparkler than the Rose version when I taste both last Sunday. Brut is very clean, fresh with floral aromas and distinct notes of brioche. Made from 100% Chenin Blanc, it’s neither too dry nor sweet and feels just right on the palate with fruity flavours and a decent finish. Even the bubbles appear to be finer than the usual Brut.

The packaging is very chic and modern-perfect for the Rose though I am not a fan of the orange colour for the label for the Brut and a different orangish-yellow band on the neck. The straight line on the ‘R’ of Brut, is suggestive of someone drooling over the wine while drinking- quite attractive.

Alcohol is the usual- 12% on both labels. The label does mention the ageing process as Methode Traditionelle. Rose Brut is made from Shiraz of 2017 vintage. Darker in colour, almost light red, it is a bit heavy on the palate and darker on the eyes and with tannic back-end and finish, making it more suitable with food, especially meat dishes. Brut at 12 % alcohol can be devoured when chilled properly with or without snacks or food-it was divine with Red Snapper, apparently a very popular dish at a Lunch yesterday at Pluck.

A more economical way to have these 2 labels can be a special binge session at the Sunday Brunch at Rs. 3250+, where unlimited pours are available at only an additional Rs. 500+taxes as compared with only the food at Rs. 2750+ which is a steal if you are in the mood for a special afternoon-the beauty being that each dish is as delicious as if made especially for you at the table.

Pullman had introduced both the red and white version of the still wine earlier at Pling and Pluck Restaurants and both sell for the same price too, at Rs. 650+ a glass and Rs. 3250+ a bottle.  This means you can now have a glass of Pullman wines with any dish-ask the Sommelier or the restaurant manager, if you are not sure about which wine to order with your food. But to me a glass of Brut by Pullman would always be a welcome condiment for any food-some time I might go for the Rose Brut instead.

Jai Ho to the new addition of Brut by Pullman!
