Don’t larvf at the news about La Revue du Vin de France (LaRVF), the famous French wine magazine, frequently referred to as the French Wine Bible, launching a Chinese-language edition for the Chinese market, when a significant number of wine magazines are languishing and fighting for survival. Marie Claire Group, publisher of the title, plans to be a part of the action, with the exploding Chinese market that brought France back as the world’s Top Producer in 2010.
The Chinese version of the RVF magazine will be published monthly and will be produced locally by Chinese journalists. Some of the articles will be translated from the French version of the magazine. Another part of the Chinese RVF will cater specifically to the Chinese market and wine consumption.
La Revue du Vin de France was founded in 1927 and claims to be the largest European wine magazine and possibly one of the three top ones in the world, (Wine Enthusiast might challenge the claim, though) which include Wine Spectator from the US and Decanter in UK.
The magazine will commence publication in May in collaboration with SEEC Media Group, a major Chinese publisher well- known for its business magazine Caijing which covers China's issues in finance, business, economy, industry, politics, law, environment and energy etc. The debut is expected to coincide with a major wine fair being organised for the first time in the city.
Speaking to reporters in Paris, its publisher Jean-Paul Lubot reportedly said the wine market in China was undergoing a real explosion and that Revue du Vin wanted to be part of the action. ‘One part of the magazine will be dedicated to wine and its consumption in China, to be produced by a team of Chinese journalists, while the other part will deal with great wines from France and carry articles from Revue du Vin, translated and adapted into Chinese, according to the Editorial Chief.
The magazine is published by The Marie Claire group, with 73 titles in 35 countries including India.
