DelWine Excellence Awards postponed due to Covid-19

March 12: Third edition of delWine Excellence Awards to have been held on April 29, 2020 at the venue partner, Pullman New Delhi Aerocity has been postponed due to the chaos created by Covid-19 (Corona Virus) having no end in sight, with a fresh date to be announced later when the Indian and global situation returns to normalcy, says Subhash Arora, Chairman of the Awards

Wine is good for health but there has been no evidence at all that it is a guard against the dreaded Corona Virus which has engulfed the whole world and is still unabated, says Subhash Arora. ‘We have been monitoring the situation carefully but no respite seems to be in sight. A few of our Speakers are expected to come from overseas for the Summit that precedes the Awards and they are not sure if they want to or will be able to come or even if the government of India would give them the visa.’

A last minute cancellation would upset all our plans, says Arora, adding, ‘even the Sponsors are not in a frame of mind to think about participation at the present time and we fully understand and recognise the predicament and apathy to participation. I think under the circumstances it is but prudent that we postpone the event till the situation returns to normalcy which it will sooner or later.’

It was perhaps the only event of its kind where the Awards Date was already announced at the last year’s event at Pullman on April 23, 2019. ‘That was jinxed, perhaps,’ says Arora who had to cancel a foreign visit because of the date clash. It is a moot point whether even that event would take place now at all, he says.

The venue partner, Pullman New Delhi Aerocity, on both the earlier editions has been very understanding and co-operative and as Vishrut Gupta, Director of Operations affirms, ‘it is sad but we are all in the same boat. We will need to sit down and discuss the dates mutually acceptable when normalcy returns.’

In the meanwhile, any monies received so far from any Sponsors, wine producers or importers may be used later for the edition when organised or the money will be refunded in full, assures Arora. DelWine regrets if the postponement has caused inconvenience to anyone.
