Wine n Pizza at La Piazza

We Recommend: Wine n Pizza at La Piazza

June 07 : As they announce the new summer Menu at the well-known Italian restaurant in Delhi, La Piazza has a very interesting deal of two large pizzas with a bottle of Trio Chardonnay or Cabernet Sauvignon blend that the young and novice wine lovers will find extremely attractive as it gives them a chance to try out wine with their popular food, says Subhash Arora

Click For Large ViewClick For Large ViewChef Alessandro offers two large pizzas of any type- vegetarian or non-vegetarian (chicken, sea-food, pepperoni etc) with one bottle of Trio from Concha y Toro for only Rs.2100. This with all taxes included, is quite a bargain and a deal that lets you enjoy a decent white and a red on two different occasions.

As Kumar Shobhan, the F & B Director confirms, any pizza which is on the standard menu may be ordered with a bottle of Chardonnay or Cabernet from Concha y Toro’s Trio label at La Piazza. The biggest Chilean wine company already sells a lot of Frontera and Sunrise low ended wedding and banquet wines. Then there is the higher level Casillero Diablo which is a value-for-money quaffable wine. Trio is a notch higher and is quite a respectable blended wine.

With vegetarian pizzas and non-vegetarian-Chicken and seafood pizzas, a Chardonnay is recommended while pepperoni would go better with the fuller bodied red- the Cabernet Sauvignon.

Trio- the Blend

Whereas the Casillero Diablo is a varietal wine, Trio is a blend with the Chardonnay being about 70% and  the balance being Pinot Grigio and Pinot Blanc, while the Cabernet has 15% each of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, besides 70% Cabernet. The Chardonnay is fresh and juicy, with a hint of tropical notes on the nose and the palate with minerality and citrus flavours, while the red is full of black cherries and blueberries with a good structure. The powerful and persistent wine could handle many more serious dishes but why should we complain if we are getting a good deal with pizzas!

The only problem- you have to be there from 6:45-7:45 pm to get the deal and you may as well keep your Club at Hyatt card at home. It doesn’t get you any preferential treatment. Considering a bottle of Trio normally sets you back by about Rs.2900 in the restaurant where the Pizzas cost over Rs.1000 each, this is a great opportunity for a dinner outing and the possibility of enjoying decent Chilean wines.

Tortellini Affair

Besides, Chef Alessandro has revamped the summer menu at La Piazza. Salads, pastas, risottos and more are on offer. You may try tiger prawn risotto or spicy salami onion pizza. Chicken cannelloni or  the marinated Scottish salmon for an appetizer sound refreshing. On Mondays and Thursdays, he has  introduced the Tortellini Affair, which includes a bowl of salad, 7-8 types of Tortellini (types of ravioli) and a dessert. It is a bargain at Rs. 1195++ a head but with unlimited Trio thrown in, it is highly recommended at Rs.1995++ as it gives you an opportunity to taste and drink both the wines at the same time. Shobhan confirms that the wine is unlimited and if the guest so desires he will get both the wines. But please remember, after you finish off a full bottle of wine or more (not healthy anyway) please have a designated driver to drive you home. For more information, contact 011 6677 1304
