Paanch Pyaras of Wine Come Together

Paanch Pyaras, the five lovables of wine, the First Growth Chateaux of Bordeaux - Lafite-Rothschild, Margaux, Latour, Mouton-Rothschild and Haut-Brion come together for the first time in more than twenty  years for a Masterclass in London at the Decanter Fine Wine Encounter at the Landmark Hotel in November this year.

According to the news release by Decanter.com the Masterclass will be presented directly by the directors of the chateaux : Charles Chevallier of Lafite, Paul Pontallier of Margaux, Frederic Engerer of Latour, Herve Berland of Mouton and Jean-Philippe Delmas of Haut-Brion.  Two wines will be tasted from each property by these stalwarts who are wine celebrities in their own right.

The estates have all presented their wines in London several times before. But this is the first time that all five will come together to share a podium, says Decanter.

Besides the top chateaux there will be historic Masterclasses also from Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion and Opus One of California. Jean-Philippe Delmas will present 10 vintages of La Mission, sister property of Haut Brion. Eight vintages of Opus, the collaborative venture of Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, will be tasted under the guidance of their winemaker Michael Silacci.

Ian d'Agata will present a dozen different terroirs of one of the top Italian wines, Brunello di Montalcino, whereas Paul and Johnny Symington will show 11 rare vintage ports from the Symington cellars, including such scarcities as Dow's 1966 and Warre's 1960 and Graham's 1955.
