Given on the eve (15 November) of the second Indian Wine Day organised by him in conjunction with the Lalit Group of Hotels on November 16 at 9 of the hotels pan India and London, the Award reflects the confidence shown by the peers in the hospitality industry more specifically related to spirits and wine.
‘We instituted this Award category for the last 5 years since we started the annual Awards. This particular Award is decided by the jury of 13 people. Your name was recommended by some of the members and after discussion, it was decided unanimously in your favour,’ said Bishan Kumar, Chief Editor of the Spirits magazine.
While giving his concurrence for accepting the Award, Arora thanked the organisation because this implied recognition of the work being done by him to further the cause of his favourite beverage-wine. However, he clarified that his work was specifically on wines and often engaging with the hospitality industry but he carried no truck for the Spirits industry. However, the Award does not distinguish between wine and spirits and is merely the Friend of the Industry (Jury Choice) and is in the Gold category as compared to all the other awards which have a Gold and Silver category.
The Award was given at the Award Ceremony at Pullman Aerocity by H.E. Ms. Joanna Kempkers and Sumedh Singh Mandla, CEO of VBev, the latest addition to the imported wine and spirits industry; both were invited specially to give away the Awards. The Award given to Arora was the last in the wine category.
Arora was first recognised by the Italian government when he was given the title of ‘Cavaliere para la Cultura’ by the President of Italy in 2009 for promoting Italian culture through wines and helping Italian producers getting into the Indian market. This was followed by another prestigious Award by the International Association of Vines and Wine (OIV) , the UN-type organisation which takes only governments as members. Arora had been a catalyst in getting India admitted to this elitist Paris-based Association unanimously as the 43rd member state (it has now 47 members). At that time and even today, he continues to be the only Indian Awarded this medal and it has been a feather in his cap. Every year 4-5 people are elected globally for the Award given for exceptional service to the wine industry.
This has been the second recognition within the shores of India for him. Earlier this year, he was awarded ‘Most Influential Leaders in Wines and Spirits Award’ recognition by the World CSR Day &World Sustainability at Taj Land’s End Mumbai in February, 2018.
