Whereas Aubert de Villaine, co-owner and co-director of the iconic Bourgogne winery Domaine de la Romanée Conti will conduct the tasting of its famous Grand Cru La Tâche and Marquis Nicolo Incisa della Rocchetta will guide you through several vintages of his world famous Super Tuscan wine, the tasting of Bordeaux Grands Crus Classé will take you through 7 decades, each represented by an outstanding year, making these paid events alone a reason for attending the whole conference.
Speakers at the WWS 2011 will include Sirs Aubert de Villaine who will talk about the Climats of Burgundy and Dr. Andy Xié former Chief Economist for Asia Pacific for Morgan Stanley, speaking on Wine in China. There will also be several other internationally recognized figures, including a representative of the World Trade Organization (WTO) that would be very relevant for the wine importers in India.
In addition to six main seminars it will also feature for the first time, several workshops on current events and practices in the world of wine. For instance, the role of wood in vinification (Chêne et Cie/Taransaud), what insurance companies can offer in terms of traceability needs in transport, the latest research by a glass and bottle company (Saint-Gobain) will be some of the topics discussed and debated.
Each edition honours one wine region with a special guest appearance of its wines and cuisine. Argentina will be recognized this time for the maturity of their wine production and the specificity of their regions and Terroir. As the honoured country, Argentina will host a specialized seminar, an exceptional tasting as well as a dinner. An interesting aspect of their presence will be the representatives of Argentina making a worldwide exclusive announcement at this forum.
The World Wine Symposium (WWS) was founded by François Mauss, President and Founder of the Grand Jury Européen with the objective of creating a global forum of reference for the principal protagonists in the world of fine wine including producers, distributors, négociants, journalists and connoisseurs.
It was created as a unique forum to encourage the dialogue between various protagonists of the global wine industry to discuss, debate and defend the common social, political, economic and cultural interests of the world of fine wine, a product full of culture, history and geography.
WWS takes place every year, over a three day period at the Champions of “l’art de vivre” or the “art of living” Villa d’Este, a unique hotel resort on the shores of Lake Como in beautiful surroundings. Seminars, discussions, and workshops led by wine celebrities are a USP of this event. Started in 2009 during the peak of world recession, it was very successful with participation from 20 countries including India. The location is truly an incredible place to spend a few days even for your spouse who may not be interested in attending the wine seminars. Check it out at http://www.villadeste.com/
Exciting tastings organized around various themes, with wines ranging from some of the world’s most prestigious estates to wines from lesser-known countries, and sumptuous meals prepared by the acclaimed chefs of the Villa d’Este round out the event. There will also be musical interludes in the evenings and René Millet, the famous art expert specializing in 18th century paintings and a wine connoisseur with an ambition to taste every fine wine in the world will be on hand to conduct a colloquium on pictorial art and wine.
The World Wine Symposium, sometimes also known as the Davos of Wine, provides a platform for relationships to be built and reinforced, the challenges facing the industry to be addressed and the future of wine to be discussed and debated. It provides an opportunity to network with some of the most well-known personalities of the wine world. Tastings planned around various themes and delicious foods prepared by the acclaimed chefs of Villa d’Este make the gastronomical experience complete and memorable.
