IGH2018: Chandon Winery Opens Gates for Public

March 02: As a part of the month-long ‘Indian Grape Harvest’ grape festival currently underway every week-end in Nashik till March 9, the wine party moves to Chandon India winery in Dindori on Saturday March 3 for food, wine and music writes Subhash Arora who supports the idea but wonders about the results for this type of fragmented approach to wine promotion and the attendance

Saturday March 3 is like an open house at the winery, with activities starting at 4 pm when there will be guided tours of the winery. Food Fete and Music will be there to entertain the visitors from 5-10 pm. It would be a great opportunity for the visitors to taste some of the finest Indian bubbles being produced by Moet Hennessey India ltd, owned by LVMH, makers of Moet Chandon and other champagnes in their sparkling wine division.

The winery is in Dindori at a stone’s throw (albeit long) from Chateau d’Ori, once considered a premium boutique modern winery, but currently in some issues to be sorted out.  It is about 70-80 minutes away from Nashik. One could perhaps come from Mumbai and spend the night in Nashik after enjoying the festivities.

It’s not really the first time the winery will be open to public-if you are in trade or are a journalist, you could  visit them with appointment; they have an excellent hospitality canter, geared for guided tastings but had not been keen to promote to the general public as a wine tourism activity as they felt they were not ready for it yet.

Tickets for the event are Rs. 500 for food and music etc-wine is complimentary of course! Make your bookings on www.bookmyshow.com, or buy them at the entry.

The concept spearheaded by Jagdish Holkar, past Chairman of the now- defunct Indian Grape Processing Board and headed by  him, has been through a separate company of which he is the chairman, ostensibly to better focus on wine promotion of the Nashik Valley which he is proud of, being the owner of Flamingo Wines which has now been leased to Sula. Incidentally, Sula recently bought land within Vinchur Park.

The programme organisers celebrated Holi at Grand Garden Resort & Spa in Igatpuri in Nashik Valley where Bollywood Sufi songs & Punjabi Dhol had been organised for the guests to enjoy vegetarian Food delicacy with a Glass of Wine on Friday 2nd March 2018.

Soma Vineyard was a part of the package on February 24 when it launched its new Wine brand ‘Lavani along with the traditional Lavani performance of Maharashtra. The evening attracted ‘Friends of France Marie Noel & group of 10 French & 2 Germans who participated in the festival.  Renaissance Winery near Nashik Airport,  had a Wine tour & tasting, Food Court, Live Kitchen - Master Class of cooking with Wine by a celebrity Chef, Grape Stomping, Live Music , Dance Performances & other activities took place earlier on Sunday the 18th February from 6pm -10pm. Vinsura received guests earlier at their Vinchur Park winery.

The Festival is slate to be on every week-end from Friday-Sunday 1-11 March.
