Another Wine Fest by Karnataka Wine Board

Aug 20: The Karnataka State Wine Board who seems to be setting a record and a benchmark for organising wine festivals in Karnataka is organising another three-day wine fest at the premises of Horticulture Producers’ Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society(HOPCOMS) Limited in Vinobha Nagar, in Bangalore from August 19-21

The Shivamogga Wine Fest-2016  has been organised ostensibly to provide platform for an interaction between grape growers, wine producers and consumers. According to T. Somu, managing director of the Karnataka wine Board, 15 wineries had confirmed participation in the event as on Thursday.

More than 150 brands of wine that include red, white and sparkling varieties are being made available for tasting and sales. There will be technical sessions on wine grape cultivation, wine appreciation and tasting.
The food courts are being set up at the venue to facilitate food pairing with wine. In addition to this, cultural programmes are also being held as part of the fest. Additionally 10% discount is being offered on the sale of all brands of wine at the event.

Talking about the benefits of moderate wine drinking for health, he said that since inception, the Board had organised 25 such events across the State to promote wine culture. In 2015, 730,000 litres of wine were sold in Karnataka, according to Somu.

At present, around 10 percent of the grapes grown in Karnataka are used for producing wine, he said. The grape farmers will be benefited from enhancement in the sales of wine..

Wine festivals are important vehicles to create awareness and helps different stakeholders interact freely. KWB needs to be congratulated for its efforts in promoting wine using this route. One hopes more wine lovers will be present as it gives them a great opportunity to taste more wines and learn without any hesitation. Tomorrow is the last day of the event.
