According to their website, after winning a Gold Medal, the wine went on to win the Asia White Regional trophy. Though there was no competition for the award in the category of the Sauvignon Blanc International Trophy, the organisers commented while awarding the international trophy, ‘Only one wine was left standing when it came to the last round of this year’s Sauvignon Blanc International Trophy, and although unchallenged, our skilled tasters were in no doubt that it was fully worthy of taking home the ultimate accolade of a Decanter Asia Wine Awards International Trophy; what a spectacular result for India’s burgeoning wine scene.’ The website then goes on to trace the history of the company.
The Tasting Notes describe the wine as ‘A great expression of the varietal, with fresh white flower and tropical fruit aromas, green lemons and a leafy, herbaceous palate. Strong gooseberry notes, nettles, stone fruits, beautiful acidity and good freshness. Stands out.’
India had entered 22 wines out of which 14 wines were awarded-this would perhaps be a record of sorts for Indian wines in terms of the success rate as well. But what is most impressive is the performance of Grover Zampa which bagged, besides the coveted Trophy, 3 silver medals including the Vijay Amritraj Reserve Collection white wine that was launched yesterday along with the red counterpart in the presence of the celebrity tennis star. 3 Bronzes and 2 Commendations (total of 9) affirm what we had predicted in delWine last month.
KRSMA Estate was the next in line with a total tally of 3 medals (Silver, Bronze, and Commendation each). Four Seasons and Myra-both Bangalore based companies ( Four Seasons has the winery in Baramati) bagged a Bronze each.
