Bharti Retail to have 70 Stores

Bharti Retail Pvt. Ltd., a unit of Bharti Enterprises Ltd., plans to have seventy small and five or six mid-sized retail stores by the end of the current financial year, the parent company announced today.

"All these stores will come up in the northern part of India," Bharti Enterprises Managing Director Rajan Mittal told reporters on the sidelines of an event.

The company currently operates 27 small-sized neighborhood stores under the Easyday brand and two mid-sized compact hypermarket stores under the "Easyday Market" brand, Mittal said.

The current fiscal year ends March 31, 2010.

Bharti Enterprises is also the parent company of Bharti Airtel Ltd., India's biggest mobile-phone operator by the number of subscribers.
