South African-born London resident, Lynne Sherriff MW, will discuss the current trends in blending, with a selection of top South African winemakers. The presentation will be followed by a tutored tasting of some of the most exciting premium blends being produced in the Cape.
In addition, Su Birch, CEO of WoSA, will present a newly-developed brand protocol for South African wine producers, which outlines the cornerstones of brand South Africa. ‘Introducing SA: DNA’, as it will be named, has been devised to give all companies marketing South African wine a guide to the core values of the industry, a common language and a unified message. The brand protocol is intended to be used by brand owners and producers, to complement individual brand positioning. If you wish to register for the seminar please contact Claudia Brown, WOSA PR Manager in the UK.
The producer-led Mega Tasting will have a number of themed tasting tables, highlighting South African rosé, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinotage, Shiraz and sparking wines. These will allow visitors to get a snapshot overview of particular areas of interest. The event will also provide visitors with the opportunity to taste the first whites from the much-lauded 2009 vintage.
The Mega Tasting, South Africa’s wine fair in Europe, attracts visitors from major export markets, including the UK, Germany, Norway, Sweden, US, and Canada. About 250 South African producers, including 10 black-owned companies, are expected to exhibit at the tasting which is also celebrating 350 years of South African winemaking. Trade visitors can register for the main tasting on line at www.wosa.co.za/mega.
There ought to be a lesson in this project for the Indian wine industry too, where it is difficult to get five producers together on a common platform. They will do well to give the event a dekko and find out how the South Africans are getting aggressive by the day in their unified approach to market their products abroad, in a highly competitive environment- and with the competition, improving their quality and offering better value-for-money preposition in a highly competitive environment. |
