Wine India Moves: Andrew Steele to Leave India

Andrew Steele, the soft-spoken, warm but dynamic General Manager of Hotel Shangri-la, Delhi will be leaving India at the end of the month and move to Malaysia to take over as GM at Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru resort and spa in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

He will give charge on 24th April to David Hopcroft, the present General Manager of Shangri-la, Fijian resort. What Andrew has done for the wine promotion may be a tough act to follow but one hopes the handing over ceremony will feature exchange of a lot of information on what has been done by the hotel and what more can be achieved, especially in the wine area.

Besides, many positive steps like founding a wine club (even though slightly coloured and commercial!) Andrew introduced wine-by-the-glass concept in a proper perspective and notched up the sales of wine for the hotel exponentially in the process. Today, Shangri-la has surpassed Hotel Imperial, Delhi as a wine destination if one looks at the selection, service and the prices, thanks to the dynamic policies of Andrew Steele.

He has been in Delhi for 2 years as the GM of the Shangri-la Hotel.

‘I am looking forward to a different pace of life back in Borneo. However, I shall miss Delhi and India greatly; particularly my Indian friends who I know will come to visit and enjoy the spa and golf while sipping a fine wine at the sunset bar. You never know I maybe back one day; as India has made a strong impression on my family and I. Remember..that life is too short to drink bad wine !! " says the hard-core Delhi lover to delWine. So don’t be surprised if he is back again!
