Prior to joining the Bharat Group, he had been a Taj loyalist. Starting his hotel career with Hotel Taj Mahal in Delhi about 30 year ago, he kept on climbing till he rose to the position as Area Director and GM of Bombay's most prestigious hotel, Taj Mahal Hotel and Towers.
Belonging to the family of late Lalit Suri, Bharat Hotels has been renaming its properties as The Lalit recently. Though the reason for his leaving after such a short time could not be ascertained, it is well-known that the work culture in the two organisations is widely different. Whereas, Taj prides itself to be an independent professional run company, the latter is a family controlled organisation.
It is learnt that no replacement is sought to replace Jamal at the moment. Vijay Wanchoo, the senior Vice President will look after the role performed by the outgoing Jamal. |
