The festival claims participation from some of the well known domestic wine producers. These include Sula Vineyards, , Grover Zampa Wines, Fratelli, Nine Hills Winery, Turning Point Wines, Pause Wines, Chateau d'Ori Wines and Indus Wines. Besides, two wine accessories companies will also take part in this festival which will be inaugurated on Saturday at 12.30pm at The Woods, CP Club, Civil lines. It would be open to public from 1.30pm to 10.30pm. On Sunday, it will be open from midday. There will be DJ music in the evening at the venue as well on both days.
"It would be the first time not just in the city but in the entire Central India that such a festival is being organized. It will give us opportunity to taste wines of several makers from India under one roof," says Sharad Phadnis, co-coordinator of the festival and founder President of the Nagpur Wine Lovers Club. The organisers are also planning to showcase a few home-made wines made by the club members as well. There would be sessions on various aspects of wine education like wine tasting and food and wine pairing as well, adds Sharad.
It’s interesting to note that the festival is restricted to people above 21 years of age. In Delhi, the legal age prescribed is 25 years. But in such festivals, children are usually allowed with their parents in Mumbai. Wine festivals are a great way of promoting wine culture and families getting together at such venues make the perception of wine drinking as a part of the food go farther. But this is an issue to b resolved with the excise department at such venues.
The entry donation coupons have been kept at a very nominal Rs.300 a person. This allows a free tasting of 30 mL wine (25 servings to a bottle) at each of the participants’ stands. For details, contact 9970882351 or write to: ngpwineclub@gmail.com
The festival was initially planned for February, 2013 but had to be postponed at the request of All India Wine Manufacturers Association.
