Miazma, the home-grown premium label, couldn’t have chosen a better setting for our third wine event since we formed the club in November last year. The whole experience of a ride to Alibaug in luxury speed boats, beautiful weather and the royal pairing of fine wines from India with delicious food by Nitin Mongia’s wife Dipti, at his very aesthetically done up villa was simply superb.
‘Miazma means haze and early morning mist with its quite misty and cool air at our vineyards. Instead of showing it in the wine bottle, I wanted to capture the whole essence of the place in the name it self,’ says Karan Jain, the shy soft spoken 26- year old owner of Globus Wines, producing Miazma. Savoring the pass around snacks with wine were around 20 other elite guests Karan had invited along with 25 members of Terroir-One for this special afternoon on January 31. The verandah and garden all around the villa, along with foot massages was a perfect ambiance to enjoy the wines.
Guests mingled, discussed the wines many of them wanting to know more about them, asking Karan and me a lot of questions about the wines availability, price range production, Globus winery etc. Everyone who was there had the most enjoyable afternoon and promised to come back to the villa which is open for get-togethers and brunches.
Most members enjoyed the Miazma Chenin Blanc which has a pleasant bouquet and a bracing palate. This wine is refreshing and friendly in the mouth with a light body, subtle fruit and balanced alcohol. It paired beautifully with the cilantro chicken jalapeno hummus and the grilled pepper fish. The Chenin Reserve is silvery pale; light wine-very enjoyable in the sunny afternoon.
The Miazma Cabernet Sauvignon and the Red Reserve, a blend of Cabernet and Shiraz offers aromas of raspberry plum and dark chocolate. Both were rather smooth on the palate with some spiciness persisting on the back palate with quite an elegant finish. The wines were a decent match with the food.
Miazma label has the motif of an elephant in a happy and jovial mood. With the state of mind we left the place after sipping, drinking and gulping the wines progressively, with the excellent food prepared by Dipti, one can surely say that the elephant has arrived- and in style.
