The announcement marks a deviation from the past convention of inviting an important personality from the wine and spirits industry. Palin, who resigned as the Governor of Alaska last July to fight the Presidential elections as John McCain’s VP will be the keynote speaker in April at the 67th annual convention at Caesar’s Palace.
'Governor Palin is a great supporter of America's free enterprise system and understands that industries like the beverage alcohol industry play a key role in driving our national economy,' said Craig Wolf, WSWA President and CEO. 'We expect she will share with the convention attendees her analysis of the current political environment and her vision for America's future,' said Wolf, according to CNN.
Palin, who has just taken up a position as a political commentator with Fox News, is being seen by some people as a potential Republican Presidential candidate for the 2012 elections to the White House, motivating the organisers to hedge their bets and invite her for the conference .
The Las Vegas stop comes a few days before Palin is scheduled to address the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans, a major gathering of GOP leaders that that in recent years has become an early proving ground for potential presidential candidates.
However, according to reports, an aide to Palin was not immediately available to confirm the WLWA appearance. |
