Hotel India Moves : At the Leela Kempinski

The Leela Palaces, Hotels & Resorts has appointed Tamir Kobrin as General Manager of the new Leela Palace Kempinski Udaipur. The Leela’s first palace hotel on the shores of Lake Pichola in Rajasthan opened in April but will celebrate the grand opening later this year in October.

Kobrin was the General Manager of the Ultimate Soul Maldives Resort and Spa before joining the hotel in December, 2008. He has over 20 years of international experience working with some of the world’s leading international luxury hospitality brands and is known for his expertise in working with boutique properties. He has also held management positions at prestigious hotel groups including Ritz Carlton, Raffles and Mandarin Oriental.

In the meantime, there is a lot of buzz and activity in the Leela Kempinski’s newest property that has come up next to the Ambience Mall on Delhi-Gurgaon Border on highway NH-8. It is set to open officially on July 12. Mr. Vella Ramasawmy is the General Manager and Kunal Chauhan is heading the F & B operations.

Ramasawmy’s three decades of experience in the hotel industry includes the Kempinski, Hyatt International, Sheraton and Sun International. His key assignments include the Grand Hyatt Muscat and Park Hyatt in Goa, Melbourne and Sydney. He has also managed the renowned properties - Le Touessrok Ile aux Cerfs and Le Saint Geran in Mauritius.

The construction of the Delhi hotel is also progressing and the project team is working against the clock to make it operational before the opening of the Commonwealth Games in 2010, as the penalties for delays are huge.
