Bringing together the community of wine importers, wholesalers, distributors and retailers, along with large-scale buyers, It is single platform for international and Indian wine producers, exporters and marketers to firmly establish themselves in the Indian market, claims the website.
Initially planned for 11-13 December last year, it was postponed due to the unfortunate terrorist attack in Mumbai.
The event organised by Informa will also feature a three-day B2B exhibition and a two-day India International Wine Summit and wine tasting sessions for key Indian buyers.
This may not be the first international wine show in the strict sense, as claimed by the organisers. IFOWS had organised a similar international wine show about four years ago with much fanfare and plans to alternate every year between Delhi and Mumbai but the organisers apparently decided not to go ahead with Mumbai as the venue, at least for a while. The one-day Vinitaly India, of course has been organised regularly at the same venue in recent years except this January when Vinitaly decided to postpone for the same reason.
The show is also a pointer to the changing environment in India and more acceptance to wine as a beverage. Till a few years ago, the excise departments frowned on the use of words like wine or alcohol in the show titles. This show boldly proclaims to be a wine show.
