It has also recently tied up with York Winery in Nashik for production. It had earlier signed in August 2007, a long-term, non-exclusive production and supply agreement with the Naphad, based Sankalp Winery that produces Vinsura labels. Mandala Valley claims to be a boutique winery. "Presently, we produce about 10,000 cases of wines per year and the aim is to increase this volume by 50 to 60 per cent year on year," reportedly said Ramesh Rao, Managing Director, Mandala Valley Vineyards.
The company's present focus is to improve product quality and overall volumes. It is currently studying the consumer response of three varietals in its portfolio, Chenin Blanc, Zinfandel and Cabernet Shiraz blend. The wines are available in Mumbai, Bangalore, Goa and Pune. The company plans to introduce them in Hyderabad, Chennai and Pondicherry by next month, with the North Indian markets being on their radar screen for an end-of-the-year launch.
Karnataka is fast becoming a new hot venue for setting up new wineries. Sula and Indage are already known to be planning to get into Karnataka by renting wineries possibly this season. At the time of announcement of the new policy, delWine had predicted between 20-30 wineries within the State during the next 3 years. This seems to be on course despite the current recessionary trend which everyone hopes is short term only. |
