We Recommend: Cotes du Rhone 2006 Bouchard Ainé

It is no secret that AOC wines from South of Beaune, especially Rhone Valley can offer a good value for money. When the producer is as respected and established as Bouchard Ainé from Beaune, it increases the chances of getting a good wine worth our recommendation.

The Cotes du Rhone 2006 is one such AOC wine. The typical Rhone blend has 40% Grenache- the balance being primarily Syrah and Mourvedre. Deep ruby red coloured light to medium bodied wine has spicy aromas of a warm weather grapes with berries in the background. The dry wine is fruity, spicy and slightly tannic with good mouthfeel. Makes it a good combination with red meats as also chicken dishes, pork. Vegetarians may find it a bit astringent but mushroom and spinach dishes can still handle it.

At a retail price of Rs. 915, it is fairly decently priced. With a 10% discount available for delWine subscribers, if purchased by the case, makes it a very good buy. With winter approaching it is a good wine to store, though served at 14° C the light to medium bodied wine can be suitable with meal even in summers (serve slightly cooler). Nice wine to serve even at parties.

What is also commendable about the wine is low alcohol. At 12.5%, it is lower than the equivalent wines from other countries. It can also age from 2-5 years. So, if you forget drinking it for a couple of years, you might even get a better tasting wine provided it has been stored properly in a wine cooler.

Contact the importer, United Vintners Ltd.directly to pick a case or more.DelWine has no interest in the price or the deal whatsoever except that we want our readers to gain, if we can help them. The price reduction is being offered as they have got the agency recently from this winery belonging to the Boisset Group. The offer is valid till December 15, 2008.
