Australia Wines from Golfer

Golfer Nick Faldo has launched his own wine labels in time for this year's Ryder Cup golf tournament between Europe and the US to be held in Valhalla in Kentucky from September 19-21.

Faldo, now Europe's Ryder Cup captain has launched a range of quaffable wines from Australia in alliance with Spanish Ferrer family owned Katnook Estate, based in the Coonawarra region.

The wines include Faldo Sauvignon Blanc, Faldo Cabernet Sauvignon and his personal favourite - Faldo Shiraz. They will be available in the US in time for this year's Ryder Cup.

Golfer-turned winemaker Faldo said: "Classic golf courses and classic wine are defined by a common ingredient, which is soil."

Stars, celebrities like Sir Cliff Richard and sportsmen often catch the wine bug and bring out wines in their own label. Dennis Lillee label was introduced from the Australian fast bowler, which include a cabernet sauvignon from the Margaret river region in Western Australia.

Ernie Els, the master golf champion from South Africa introduced a label in his name and had stopped over in India last year to promote his wine label-classic Bordeaux blend using Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. The aim with the wine is to capture everything that Ernie stands for- big in stature and gentle in character. He chose the Stellenbosch based Rust En Vrede wine estate to produce his label.

Perhaps, we shall soon see a 'Milkha' wine from Nashik valley one day in the near future ?!

You'd be surprised how many Indian wines have that characteristic.

A Milkha wine ? I would say its characteristics would be it starts of strong and fades to a weak finish, possibly leading to choking !!!
