Multinationals and their potential Indian partners who
are awaiting the results of the study initiated by the Commerce Ministry
will have to sweat out for a couple of months more as the two crucial
reports on the Indian Retail have asked for more time to complete the
studies.
Two crucial reports on the Indian retail sector are
expected to be delayed again, after the organizations conducting the studies
requested more time to prepare their recommendations based on available
data. The submission of the reports, which was earlier delayed from February
to April, is now expected to take place in July this year.
The studies in question are the reports on the impact
of organised retail on neighbourhood stores (conducted by ICRIER) and
the report on the impact of FDI in multi-brand retail (conducted by NCAER).
The move is likely to further delay any potential liberalization of the
Indian retail market.
