Michelangelo Awards see Return of an old ally

April 22: The 19th edition of Michelangelo International Wine & Spirit Awards will take place in South Africa in August with the competition continuing to grow, having introduced South Africa’s first Liqueur Awards last year and founding of the Michelangelo IQ Business Wine Club in Johannesburg and with entries reaching a record 1730 as also the return of an old ally, Dave Hughes, writes Subhash Arora who has been again invited to judge

Sue van Wyk and Lorraine Immelman
Michelangelo owner and managing director, Lorraine Immelman has announced the return of an Dave Hughes. In her written statement as reported in WOSA journal, she says “We are delighted to welcome back to the Michelangelo panel honourary Cape Wine Master, Dave Hughes, who will take his place as a member of the jury again this year. Dave has also been appointed chairman of the Michelangelo Brandy panel.

Technical Director

Cape Wine Master Christine Rudman has also accepted the position as the competition’s Technical Director with immediate effect.

Christine has been serving on the judging panel since 2007, representing South Africa on the international panel of judges. Her new role as Technical Director takes her out of the judging process as she will be responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of the competition. This includes verifying all entries, supervising the logistics during the one-week judging process and - in close co-operation with the auditors - overseeing the allocation of medals and trophies.
International judges confirmed

To date 19 international judges have accepted the invitation to judge on this year’s Michelangelo panels. The list includes Subhash Arora from India, who has been invited again after his first time in 2010. Eventually, 22 wine and liqueur judges will serve on the 2015 jury. Here is a list of the judges who have confirmed so far:
