As a bonus, the buyer will also get a 6-bottle pack of wine from each of the 100 wineries, implying a gift of 600 bottles of wines. The book will weigh more than a 2-pack of 6 champagne bottles or the equivalent of about 3 cases of 6-bottle packs of wine. Some of the wineries will also invite the book buyer to visit them, reports Decanter.
It has been published by Kraken Opus, which has previously launched extravagant works on the Indian cricket ace Sachin Tendulkar, Argentine footballer Diego Maradona and fashion designer Vivienne Westwood. It will be released in spring 2010.
The limited edition publication will have only 100 copies of the book out of which 25 have already been pre-ordered and a number of copies have reportedly been set aside for auction.
The publisher plans to appoint a ‘panel of experts' which will shortlist about 300 producers. A second panel, comprising 40 sommeliers, will make the final selection, based on pre-defined criteria at a 'wine UN meeting' in London in 2010.
A final vote will then be taken to decide the top 10.
There may be quite a few people in India who might be able to afford the purchase. At an average estimate cost of $ 200 a bottle, a Mumbai buyer may have to set aside duties and other costs of around 0.5 million dollars to bring these ‘beauties’ into India.
