Following Hong Kong Government's elimination of duties on wine in early 2008, the HKTDC created the first Hong Kong International Wine Fair, which debuted in August. The event will be renamed as Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair (HKIWSC) in 2009.
"We are delighted that the International Wine and Spirit Competition has accepted the invitation of HKTDC to organize this competition for the first time in Asia. Along with activities such as wine tasting, seminars, a conference and voting for favourite wines, will add value and prestige to the event," says assistant executive director Raymond Yip of HKTDC.
The competition will feature food and wine pairing categories, where judges will identify the top wines to match popular traditional Chinese dishes, including Peking duck, Cantonese dim sum, and Kung Pao Chicken.
Results of the judging process will be announced during the opening night of the Fair, which will be held from November 4 to 6, 2009 in Hong Kong.
The competition follows in the footsteps of the India Wine Challenge which was founded last year by Robert Joseph who had earlier initiated the International Wine Challenge in 1984. The third edition is expected to take place in Oct -Nov, 2009 in conjunction with IFE-India 2009 with international and Indian judges gathering in London and Delhi. |
