Mandala Valley appoints French Wine Consultant

Continuing the fashionable trend of associating with French wine makers, Mandala Valley Vineyards, Bangalore has tied up with the known Bordeaux enologist and consultant, Pascal Chatonnet. This was announced by the MD, Ramesh Rao at a Press Conference in Bangalore on Friday while uncorking their first white wine, a Chenin Blanc.

The company already makes two zinfandels and a cabernet. They plan to concentrate on red wines even when they are moving out of Bangalore to expand their acreage and add grapes from both Karnataka and Maharashtra. Chenin has been priced at the current market level of Rs.400 a bottle.

Announcing the appointment at a press conference in Bangalore, Mr. Ramesh Rao, MD of MVV said, ''As a world-renowned wine consultant and scientist Pascal and his family have developed Château Haut Chaigneau and its surrounding vineyard in Lalande de Pomerol. The estate currently produces its benchmark wine, Chateau Haut Chaigneau. He also produces 2000 his flagship wine, Château l'Archange from their small family-owned vineyard in Saint Emilion, since 2000. We shall have the benefit of his experience in winemaking and international wine consultancy.

As an international consultant, Pascal works with wineries including Vega Sicilia, Pintia, Oremus, Roda, Bodegas Lurton in Argentina, Quinta do Portal and Sogrape in Portugal, Distell in South Africa, Altaïr in Chile, Mission Hill in Canada and many châteaux in Bordeaux, Rhône valley, Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence. His specialty lab, EXCELL has become the wine world's reference point for research and analysis of wines

Rao whose primary business is advertising; creating and promoting brands is an avid golfer and also runs the Golfline magazine.

He plans to establish his brand before going for exports. Mandala Valley wines will soon be launched in Goa and Maharashtra.
