The study was conducted on 789 Italian women in the age bracket of 18-50. It may well be assumed that the women drank Tuscan wines and though the study quoted in Decanter does not so specify, the wine imbibed could be assumed to be Chianti Classico, Chianti, Super Tuscan, reds from Montalcino and Montepulciano all of which are from Tuscany and have Sangiovese in abundance.
Drinking red wine not only helps to release inhibitions, but also has a direct effect on sexual activity.
Women who drink one to two glasses of wine a day were found to be more sexually active than those who abstain, according to the study.
So is Sangiovese really good for the sex drive of women? You may draw your own conclusion but there are enquiries on the website whether the red wine has more effect on the libido of women over 50 too?
As is the conclusion of most wine studies, more research would need to be done- not only on the women of higher age but also of different nationalities. For example, the Australians claim their Shiraz to be super sexy- but for the flavour only; at least so far, comments a visitor to the website.
Meanwhile, in a survey commissioned by Vinexpo and conducted over 4,000 women in the UK, France, Japan, Germany and the US, the responding women revealed a preference for red wine over white and Rosé, contrary to the general belief that women prefer white wines.
'The image we had of Japanese and American women, especially, was that they prefer white wine. It was a surprise that this is not true,' said Robert Beynat, chief executive of Vinexpo. 'Bang goes the stereotype that women in the UK go for light, white wine,' said Decanter publishing director Sarah Kemp.
Perhaps the study at Santa Maria may have some connection with the study commissioned by Vinexpo! |
