Delhi Hosts 8 of 10 Dirtiest Indian Hotels

Eight of India's ten dirtiest hotels are in Delhi, including a couple of five-star hotels,  says a respected web-based travel guide Trip Advisor, based on around 20 million reviews and comments by travellers around the world, the 2009 vintage of which has just been released.

"We have had the dirtiest award category for some years now, but it has been reportedly introduced for the first time in India," said

Sharat Dhall, Managing Director of , Trip Advisor India. "We have discovered that some hotels take the concept of offering dirt-cheap rooms too literally. Guests have penned reviews like "It is better to live on the street than the room here."

Hotel Ashok reacted angrily to the rating. "I feel that the rankings are not credible since they are the opinions of a few users on the Internet," said S.K. Sibal, General Manager of the hotel.

But Rajendera Kumar, Vice President of the Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India, reportedly  said, "To a great extent, the survey could be correct."

With the Commonwealth games a year away in 2010, the report should be an eye-opener and a wake up call, according to Kumar. Here is the full list of The Dirty Ten:
