Wine & Heart Health Summit in USA

The fifth International Wine & Heart Health Summit, focussing on the latest results of studies being carried out on wine and health, is being held next April at Walla Walla in Washington at the historic Marcus Whitman Hotel

The conference is being organised from April 1-4, 2009 by The Desert Heart Foundation, Arizona, Wine & Heart Health Research Initiative and the Renaud Society, a society of medical professionals with an interest in better health and a passion for wine.

The Renaud Society has been so named to recognise the work done by Prof Serge Renaud of University of Bordeaux and honour him for pioneering the studies on heart and Mediterranean diet that includes wine.

Prof. Serge Renaud is usually linked with coining the term 'French Paradox' when he was invited in November 1991 on the TV programme 60 Minutes along with Dr. curt Ellison, Professor of Medicine & Public Health at the Boston University School of Medicine who is also well-known for pioneering several heart and wine related studies.

The 5th International Wine & Heart Health Summit will include the core faculty of International experts and active researchers in the many clinical and basic science disciplines impacted by wine, as well as local winemakers and wine celebrities.

'The conference also gives an opportunity to visit the Walla Walla area, with consistent, highly rated wines, recently lauded by Wine Spectator and Robert Parker,' says Dr. Tedd Goldfinger, chairman of the conference held every two years and frequented by cardiologists and physicians from across the US and in fact the globe. Earlier editions have been organised in the heart of Napa Valley.

Every producer, including the iconic wineries Leonetti, L'Ecole 21, Seven Hills Vineyards, Woodward Canyon, Pepper Bridge, etc of  boutique quality and culture will be present.

The conference is ideal Indian wine producers, importers, wine educationists, and medical doctors who believe wine is good for health and the doctors who feel it isn't. It provides an opportunity to learn about the latest in studies around the world relating to wine and heart health. It also gives you an opportunity to meet top producers and physicians whose love for wine drove them to the wine producing regions of the US where they set up their vineyards and wineries.

What's more, after the conference, on the way back you could stop over at Verona in Italy and catch Vinitaly for a couple of days- the show takes place from 2-6 April.

Stay tuned to www.winesummit.com or http://www.renaudsociety.org/events.html

for further details or write to Tedd Goldfinger, Chairman of the conference at TeddGoldfinger@comcast.net

Indian Wine Academy recognises the health benefits of wine when drunk in moderation. I have attended the conference many times and believe it is worth checking out for the named category of people. We have no interest in the promotion of the conference in any way- editor
