Champagne House to Go Green

The second largest and prestigious  Champagne House Vranken-Pommery Monopole (VPK) has announced in a report that it will go green-  highlighting the company's commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility for its entire range of champagnes, ports other wines.

The document also spells out its policy on environmental ethics and its social commitment, encompassing all levels of winemaking- from the vineyards to water efficiency, waste management and packaging. It covers environmental protection, product quality assurance, anticipating requirements, people management, communication with stakeholders, and sharing expertise.

Pledges include the promise to extend the certification process to all members of the group; to limit the environmental impact of the production process; and to pass on its passion and know-how to younger generations.

Specific improvements made by VPM over the last few years include the implementation of sustainable vine-growing methods instead of insecticides in order to limit vineyard damage caused by insects. There has also been a concerted focus on water efficiency, resulting in a reduction in both water and fuel consumption in the Aube region of Champagne.

VPM makes several brands of Champagne including Heidsieck Monopole Blue Top which is being introduced in India by Sula Vineyards during the next few days. Says Rajeev Samant,' I am very glad we are working with a company who is eco-conscious  . This policy may not result in more sales but is certainly in congruence with our philosophy of working to save the planet.'

This article is in confirmation with our policy of promoting steps taken by any wine related company for clean environment. eco-friendliness, climate control and organic farming related projects, howsoever mundane they might appear to some viewers-editor
