Each category-wine, beer and liquor is represented by Burgundy red, brownish yellow and blue colours respectively. The intensity of each colour shows how much of that drink is consumed. The darker red for France thus indicates that more wine is drunk here than in Argentina, although the drink is still the preferred booze in each country.
This map has been created by Ghost in the Data using alcohol and health data from the World Health Organisation. If India is splashed with blue, we may not be surprised as we are aware of the liquor fixation and the consumption here. India consumes a miniscule 1mL wine per capita per week whereas beer at 58 mL is still dwarfed by spirits and liquor that has 99mL of consumption. Curiously, the neighbouring Pakistan shows no consumption. Alcohol is prohibited and so the legal imports would be nil.
If you click on each country it shows details for that country. For instance it shows that France loves wine-so does Argentina. Russia loves spirits, and Australians enjoy a beer. Dig a bit more and there are some interesting quirks: Spirits are big in Liberia, for instance.
Interestingly, wine appears to be the preferred alcoholic beverage in Laos. Beer outdoes wine by 6 times in Spain- one of the biggest wine producers in the world-both in terms of vine area and volume. The Map Link was published in the Indian Wine Academy closed group on Facebook today. The response was so tremendous and the interests so instantaneous that we decided to publish it for the wider group of wine lovers- those readers of delWine who may be curious.
