The poolside setting at the Eden
Court was a great location for some of the known and not so well known
brands from the vineyards of Europe to showcase their wines.
Vipul Gupta, Director of the Met, recognizing the immense potential of the
nascent wine drinking culture in Delhi, was happy to be playing his part in
the promotion of wine in Delhi through the medium of their annual wine
festivals.
A quick run through the stalls, essentially from France, Italy, Germany and
Spain, made me zero in on the Laurent Perrier Brut for what was to be the
best aperitif on offer clearly many notches above the Bouvet-Ladubay Brut
from the United Breweries stall.
The French were well represented in the area of white wines amongst which
the Chablis Saint Martin and the Le Vigne D’Argent (a Sémillon and aromatic
Sauvignon blend) from Bordeaux stood out.
The Italian reds were in the vanguard with the Camp Gros Barbaresco- a
classic example of the fine Nebbiolo grapes from the Martinega estates of
Marchesi di Gresy. Another interesting find was the Villa Chiopris Merlot –
a tasty and fruity easy drinking wine.
The best part of a wine market festival is the opportunity to expose one’s
palate to different taste sensations which would ordinarily not be possible.
All credit to The Met who did an excellent job in backing up the vast
display of wines with plenty of pastas and barbeques to round off a very
enjoyable evening.
