The £2,000 BorVilág-VinCE Scholarship has been created by Peter Csizmadia-Honigh in association with VinCE, Hungary's leading consumer wine magazine, and Creative Services Support Group, an innovative charitable organisation bringing together the world of art to create opportunities for young underprivileged Indians to fulfill their potential.
Shettigar was selected for the scholarship at the Indian Sommelier Championship held last month in Gurgaon. He is currently the Manager at the 360° Restaurant at the Hotel Oberoi, New Delhi for a year and has previously worked as the assistant manager at Le Cirque Restaurant at the Leela Palace New Delhi and in the F&B team at the Leela Mumbai; he had worked with the Group for 6 years, he says .
Deepak will be traveling to Hungary at the end of February to join the participants at the VinCE Budapest, Hungary’s most significant wine event of the year; and to visit producers in the historic cellars of Tokaj, Eger and Somló among other major regions in Hungary. He leaves Delhi on 27 February for Budapest and returns on March 6.
As expected, he is quite elated on being selected. ‘I am naturally very excited especially as Hungary is yet an unexplored region and I will be one of the first ones to study its wine, food and culture. I am looking forward to meeting the Hungarian people too and would love to educate and spread the word about Hungarian wines on my return,’ he shares with delWine.
The Creative Services Support Group (CSSG) was founded by Anand and Aditi Kapoor. It is a registered charity established to aid underprivileged young adults through skills training and mentorship within the creative sectors and has been functioning since April 2011.
Peter Csizmadia-Honigh is a London based wine professional working as the Education Manager of the Institute of Masters of Wine. He also jointly owns the Royal Somló Vineyards in the Somló Region of Hungary, making Juhfark (a local Hungarian white grape variety that is grown only in Hungary and that too mostly the Somló region) wines for Michelin-star restaurants. He is also a freelance wine writer with a special interest in the wines of India and writes articles for publications in Hungary, UK, US and India where he has travelled extensively.
VinCE Magazine is a monthly wine magazine in Hungary with the largest circulation. The publishers of the magazine also organize VinCE Budapest, a three-day wine event featuring legendary winemakers and acclaimed wine journalists among the speakers, who present workshops and tastings to almost 6,000 visitors from more than 10 countries. The 2014 edition of VinCE will be held from 28 February to 2 March in Budapest, the Hungarian Capital.
The scholarship won by Shettigar and his visit to Hungary should help catalyze the presence in India of Hungarian wines which beside Tokaj offer wine connoisseurs a wider choice of several unique wines.
