''This tie up with FineWinesnMore will be Ferragamo's first venture into the luxury wine industry in India,' said Salvatore Ferragamo, the grandson of the famous Italian footwear designer at the launch of Ferragamo wines, attended by big corporates and wine connoisseurs of Mumbai. 'We have been waiting for the right partner and an appropriate time to enter the Indian market,' he added.
Dharti Desai, owner of FineWinesnMore said, "We are very happy to bring luxury wines from the global fashion label from Italy. We have always aimed to provide a platform to build a lifestyle community of wine connoisseurs in India. These wines are a further step in that direction."
As part of the exclusive tie up, FWM will introduce five labels from two Ferragamo Family Estates- Il Borro and Castiglion del Bosco. The range will include one white wine, labelled Lamelle, and four red wines — Il Borro, Pian Di Nova, Rosso Di Montalcino and Brunello Di Montalcino.
Ferragamo, who runs the 700-hectare Il Borro estate with 40 hectares dedicated to cultivate grapes, produces three labels — Il Borro, Pian di Nova and Polissena. Ferragamo wine estate is part of the portfolio of the family's luxury holdings, including the fashion and accessories business, four hotels in Florence and a yacht-building company.
FWM has signed a three-year exclusive contract with Ferragamo. Besides selling their wines, the importing company also plans to promote the Ferragamo wine estates, Il Borro and Castiglion del Bosco as wine tourism destinations to Indian wine enthusiasts.
Despite the difficult economic scenario, Dharti is confident of selling over 10,000 bottles in the next six months. 'We have good contacts and reach within the hospitality industry. We also plan to tap the Duty-free segment,' she told delWine.
FWM sold 6500 cases of imported wines last year and plans to sell 10,000 cases this year. This is in addition to the Nashik produced Chateau d'Óri wines which she signed recently up with for distribution in most parts of India.
Craig Wedge, the international wine consultant to JW Marriott was very impressed by the quality and pedigree of the wines and according to Desai has decided to place all 5 labels on the wine list of Marriott.
The premium Tuscan wines will be priced from Rs. 8000 ($ 170) to Rs. 12,000 a bottle and will initially be available in Mumbai and Duty-free only.
