Here are some of his impressions:
What is FederExport Piemonte
'This
regional federation of Federexport is a private non-profit association
like the others in Lombardia, Sicily etc.'
And when was it created? "In 1992 in Torino as Association of Piedmont
Export Consortia by initiative of the Piedmontese Export Consortium
in order to plan and coordinate the promotional activities in foreign
countries,' says Monforte. Earlier the Federexport was created by law
in 1976 at the national level to promote exports of various 'Made in Italy'
products from important regions.
What are the Objectives
'Its objective is to support and develop the activities of Export Consortia
active in Piemonte. The Federation meets the needs of the pooled enterprises
by utilizing the experience gained in many years by each Consortium. It
selects and coordinates a number of promotional events common to all the
Consortia.'
'Federexport has its offices in Brussels, Budapest, Sofia, Warsaw, Moscow,
Miami, San Pedro Sula, Guatemala City, Santiago, San Paolo, and Lima.'
'We are governed by certain laws,' says Giuseppe. One of the restrictions
is that all the firms must be small or medium sized,' he explains.
For Exports only
Are the activities to promote domestic support also or meant to encourage
only exports? I ask.
'Our main objective is to support the commercial penetration of these
companies abroad by taking advantage of our own foreign organizational
structures.'
'It is a grouping of companies that come together to create synergies
and increase their competitiveness, reducing the risks and the costs of
exports,' he adds.
Not for Wine Alone
Does
Giuseppe look after wine sector alone? No. 'As I mentioned, we have a
total of 36 Consortia which are members of our Association. Federexport
Piedmont groups various consortia that can be either "monosectorial"
which focuses only on one business sector, for instance spare parts, food,
wine, jewellery, fashion, etc. or "plurisectorial" which looks
after multiple sectors. We also have some which are grouped by geographic
area, or a sector like tourism. As the President, I look after all its
activities.
However, I am in India now to promote only wines at the IFE – India.
His Impressions about IFE
'I see a lot of people coming to the show. But talking to them I am not
sure if they are the right profiled people for our business. We have been
very busy, of course. But I think the publicity has not been enough. There
could have been more newspaper ads, hoardings etc, to collect the right
kind of people.'
But we do hope to come back next year too, he added.
