| With the festive season of Christmas and New Year fast approaching, international wine makers are gearing up to enter the Indian market with a bang, reports Financial Express.
Close to 30 international wine brands are looking to enter the Indian market by the end of the year, according to industry sources.
International wines companies including those from Italy, Australia, France and other countries are looking at introducing their brands in the Indian wine mart through their own operations or marketing tie-ups with Indian agencies. They are also looking at, if needed, to import wine in bulk, and bottle it locally.
According to industry estimates, the total market for wines in India is around 6-7 lakh cases per annum out of which 1.2-1.3 lakh cases are imported from countries including France, Italy, Australia and many others.
Justifying its entry into India at this point of time, Australia's De Bortoli Wines managing director Darren De Bortoli says, "The per capita consumption of wine in India is still low as compared to international standards. Hence, we do not think that we are late in entering the market."
