Metro hotels around the country are reeling under rising attrition rates currently pegged at 18-25% a year, but growing at the alarming annual rate of 10%, reports the trade paper, Express Hospitality. Coupled with high staff turnover, there's also growing pressure on the bottomline as the wage bill continues to escalate at the rate of 10-12% a year as star hotels grapple with ways to hold on to their employees.
The attrition rate is minimal in Accounts, HR and Administration, Kitchen Stewarding and Engineering, but in main operational areas like F&B, Sales and Marketing, Front Office and Housekeeping, the employee turnover goes up to as much as 80-100%.
Says Sanjeev Oberoi, VP-Operations, Orchid Hotels, Mumbai: "The majority of hotels in Mumbai are experiencing 100% turnover in key functional areas, which does affect the bottomline, as the cost of attrition is high. We are interviewing F&B or Front Office assistants almost every week."
