As part of efforts to promote Malaysia's tourism industry, visitors from India and China will now be allowed to use multiple-entry visas that will be valid for a year, reports the news agency Bernama, quoting Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Najib said this was with immediate effect provided the entries were not for more than 30 days each time. "The fees that will be charged for the multiple-entry visas will be RM50 for Indian citizens and RM30 for Chinese, which are the same for single-entry visas for visitors from both countries now," he added after chairing a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Tourism.
Tourists from India and China made up about 10% of 7.19 million visitors to Malaysia between January and May this year. Najib said Malaysia would open a consulate in Mumbai, India's commercial capital, after numerous requests from people for visa application facilities to be made available there.
