Italian wine exports to India have not even reached the 1-million-euro mark, whereas the Chinese market already is worth 4.7 million euros, according to study of destination markets by Coldiretti, which was released at the 40th Vinitaly in Verona.
Among the emerging markets for Italian wines, Russia registered the best performance (50.7% growth in 2005), reports AGI quoting the study. The growth, the study says, has nothing to do with the ongoing Russian ban of Moldovan and Georgian wines, but it's mainly because of the increase of Russian tourism to Italy and a growing appreciation of Italian products by the Russian consumer. The United States , at 771.3 million euros (a quarter of the value of Italian wine exports), was the biggest market for Italian wine exports in 2005. |
