Bangalore will soon have 38 new hotels promoted by the Hiltons and the Marriots of the world checking in by shelling out a whopping Rs 26.7 billion. The addition of these new hotels, ranging from five-star deluxe to economy and budget categories, will propel India's Silicon Valley to the numero uno spot in the hospitality space, say industry players.
Industry giants, including ITC, Taj and Bharat Hotels, besides global chains Shangri-La, JW Marriott, Hilton, Oakwood and Carlson are all opening new hotels in the Garden City. The new hotels are likely to add 8,000 to 9,000 rooms to Bangalore, which is suffering from a chronic short supply of rooms.
A report from DTZ Debenham Tie Leung, a global real estate advisory and consultancy firm, the luxury segment, which now accounts for 1,485 rooms, is likely to witness the maximum addition of nearly 3,500 rooms, taking the count from the present eight hotels to 23 hotels over the next three years. The estimated investment excluding the cost of land is nearly Rs 15 billion.
