The Mayor of the Barossa Council has expressed delight that the region's historic wine train will be back up and running in November, reports the television channel ABC. The service stopped in 2003 because of reduced passenger numbers and rising insurance premiums.
A winery owner, John Geber, who has bought half of the service, says the train will be restored and back on track later this year. Mayor Brian Hurn says he hopes the service will attract enough passengers.
Geber declined to name the amount he had paid for it. "We're going to run it on Sundays only; [it'll] probably cost A$130 around there, that's for a full day, meals, tours to other wineries, and we're going to be targeting the corporate market very, very strongly," he said.
