On a day when Indians were toasting the successful closure of steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal's US$33.35bn bid on Arcelor, the world's second largest steel maker, another significant takeover went unnoticed.
Tata Coffee has paid US$220 million to pocket Eight O'Clock Coffee, the third-largest brand by volume in the US$21-billion US coffee retail market. Based in Montvale, New Jersey, Eight O'Clock Coffee is Folgers and Maxwell House in the US market.
Tata Coffee, incidentally, is owned by Tata Tea, which recently acquired UK's Tetley, Good Earth in the US and the Czech Republic's Jemca. |
