Christian Delpeuch, President of CIVB, Bordeaux's main wine trade body, resigned dramatically in protest against the lack of progress on the reforms needed in the region, reports Jane Anson in www.decanter.com.
Delpeuch announced he would be leaving what is one of the region's flagship roles. This, he said, is mainly because of the French government's failure to underwrite a €60m loan for grubbing up vines. This is aimed at reducing overproduction in Bordeaux.
Grubbing up is due to start in two weeks' time, but Delpeuch hasn't heard from the government. Delpeuch will be leaving on July 10 to return to his full-time position as Managing Director of Ginestet, one of Bordeaux's biggest negociants.
