"The reality is that French wine is in a crisis of under-delivery and over-supply -- this is what makes their pricing so low. They are getting out-gunned. If they could ask more for their wines, they would. The top-end of South African wine is getting more expensive because these wines are over-delivering and catering to an enthusiastic base of clientele that are buying them and getting value, but this is a tiny fraction of the SA wine market and should be encouraged to continue on this path of excellence. The French Paradox these days refers more to the inexplicable lack of solid marketing out of France rather than to any health associated benefits."
